CONTEST INFO

The WCMA Better Newspaper Contest recognizes excellence in student journalism across the state.


Submissions to the 2018 contest must have appeared in print or online between Sept. 1, 2017 - Dec. 31, 2018.


Awards will be presented at the annual WCMA Convention on Friday, March 8, 2019, at The Madison Concourse Hotel in downtown Madison.

ENTRY FEES & PAYMENT

There is a $7.50 entry fee for each entry. Payment must be made before the contest deadline and can be submitted via credit card, PayPal or check.


Checks should be made payable to the Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation.


There is no fee to enter the John Patrick Hunter First Amendment Contest.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

General Excellence: Before mailing hard-copy submissions, entrants must submit information about the entry online, including uploading PDFs of each front page. A contest label will then be generated and should be printed and affixed to hard copies.


General Excellence entries must be postmarked by Jan. 21, 2019, and sent to:

RULES & ELIGIBILITY

All active campus newspapers covering Wisconsin public and private college and university campuses are eligible.


Entry divisions are:

Division A: published weekly or daily OR undergraduate enrollment of 7,500 or more

Division B: published monthly or bi-monthly OR undergraduate enrollment of 7,499 or less


Entries will be merged to the next highest entry division automatically if a category received three or fewer entries.
